Hope you had a nice weekend in the sun?
I often say that life is like surfing the waves.
Some days the waves are small.
Other days there are tidal waves. That can be unexpected, or super powerful and take us off our feet.
These waves are the challenges of life.
Trying to earn money, and progress your career yet challenged by huge levels of stress (amongst other things).
Trying to train and keep our weight down, despite always being on the go with work, life, and never having enough time.
Trying to be the best parent and/or partner you can be, staying present and devoting your attention even though your emails, messages and deadlines are never ending.
I could go on, and I’m sure it sounds a familiar story ?
What I know is that we can’t control most of these challenges (the waves), but we can control our ability to surf.
By creating a foundation of health, by working on our self mastery, and by building a body for purpose we are giving ourselves the skills needed to cope with the demands life places on us.
Another one of these skills is that we must develop resilience - in order to win.
Now of course some people are more naturally resilient than others.
But resilience can be trained, harnessed and grown, and you must do so.
Place yourself in environments and situations which challenge you, even scare you a little, and 100% take you out of your comfort zone.
You must push yourself in a steady manner, not always too far (or you may break), but you must take yourself out of your comfort zone and build resilience to win.
Combat sports, military challenges, cold showers - to name a few but ultimately who cares.
Any of these things and many more will build resilience that you can transfer back to daily life, in order to win.
Have a great week.
