Hope you had a nice weekend?
Lessons from a High Performer #2 - Conor McGregor.
In 2016 I had the pleasure at the time of meeting the UFC Champion Conor McGregor. Now I'm aware that things haven't been plain sailing since (and this post certainly doesn't endorse some allegations), but back then Conor was at the peak of his powers, beating all opponents that were placed in his way.
There are so many lessons from Conor, especially in the earlier days for everyone of us.
Here are 3 of the key
messages:
1. SELF TALK. - Conor is a master of self talk. He
backs himself in his words, he predicts his success, and every word that comes out of his mouth is positive towards what he is going to achieve. He is also a master of mind games, and on many occasions, his battles have been partly won by the words he has planted in the mind of his opponents.
2. ACT AS IF - Again Conor has the principle of 'Act
As If' completely nailed. Even before he was a world champion, he acted as if he was a world champion. Even before he was a multi millionaire he dressed as if he was, drove cars as if he was. Now you may not have any interest in material things, but ACT AS IF you are your future self. This is a key skill that helps with confidence, self esteem, focus and motivation.
3. A FOUNDATION OF HARD WORK - When all is said and
done, to be an athlete at any level you need to be physically and mentally prepared. To be a fighter, not only at world classs but at ELITE LEVEL, then you have to be insanely fit, fast and strong. The conditioning of a fighter is like no other. This is only achieved by a foundation of hard work, every single day.
Have
a great week ahead.
