A couple of weeks ago I wrote about improving your health and happiness through acceptance.
About owning the setbacks, the learnings, and moving forwards accepting your many talents and the odd learning on this journey called life.
But today, I do have to be clear on something.
And that is that acceptance alone won’t move you forward towards the things you say
that you want in life. It just stops you wasting energy on being way too hard on yourself for not being perfect (which we all know perfection doesn’t exist).
What does move you forward is action.
And that’s where you require discipline.
You see, discipline isn’t glamorous or sexy.
It’s not a motivational quote on Instagram.
It’s the 5am alarm when you’d rather stay in bed (I’m not a huge advocate of
getting up at this time every day BTW!).
It’s still going to train when your body aches.
Or when you would rather lay on the sofa.
It’s choosing water when your head’s screaming for a pint.
Or salad instead of a pie!!
I could go on!
Discipline isn’t loud.
It’s not exciting.
But it’s the difference between people who get results and people who talk about getting
results.
When I worked with world champions, do you think they were motivated every single day?
Not a chance.
There were days they’d have given anything to sack training off.
Days they hated me for pushing them (regularly).
But they still got it done.
And that’s why they stood in the ring with belts around their waist, lifted trophies above their head or won important matches when it counted.
They
didn’t win based on their feelings.
It was because they learned (<<<that’s the key word read it again) and developed the discipline that even when they didn’t always fancy it - to do it anyway.
This is where MAPPS comes in.
You see discipline is built from two things:
Action + Standards.
Action without standards is chaos.
Standards without
action is just talk.
But put them together?
You’ve got discipline.
And discipline doesn’t break anywhere near as often as motivation will.
Doing the work because it needs doing, not because you feel like doing it.
And you know what happens when you live that way?
You gain clarity.
You gain control.
The triangle is simple:
- Discipline builds
momentum.
- Momentum creates Clarity.
- Clarity gives you Control.
Discipline, clarity and control are the 3 outcomes you will gain when you join MAPPS.
So, here’s the question I’ll leave you with this week:
What would change if you stopped waiting, and just acted with discipline instead?
Because nobody’s coming to save
you.
Motivation 100% won’t.
But discipline will.

Ric
