If you aren’t sleeping well, fuelling properly, recovering properly, or calming your nervous system.
Life will hit you harder.
Pressure will hit you harder.
Stress will hit you harder.
Work will hit you harder.
And even simple decisions will hit you harder.
Because you, like me, are simply a human being.
That’s why MAPPS pillar 4 is
Performance.
Performance isn’t motivation.
It’s what you deliver - when it counts, under pressure, on demand, when no one cares how you feel.
Because when you’re overstimulated, poorly recovered, dehydrated, or living on a phone screen at midnight.
Everything feels heavier.
Your patience drops.
Your thinking gets cloudy.
Your standards slip.
But when you have a robust performance system in place with sleep, fuel, hydration,
recovery, routine - you think clearer and handle pressure like it’s nothing.
And as always this isn’t just my opinion (although Mr Moylan is rarely ever wrong).
It’s science.
And the facts are below: -
1. You must start to get a great night’s sleep.
Poor sleep destroys performance, and that is a fact.
One night of bad sleep reduces cognitive function the next day.
Chronic poor sleep wrecks:
• memory
•
decision making
• emotional control
• stress tolerance
• long term mental resilience
And the biggest cause of this is your phone addiction. And so we are clear, it 100% is an addiction (do you use your phone when on the toilet?!)
Blue light.
Late night scrolling.
A nervous system that’s massively over stimulated.
How can you expect to lead yourself, when you start every day shattered and are falling behind?
2.
Consistent and clean hydration & nutrition
Your brain is 75% water.
Even 1% dehydration affects memory, attention, and reaction time.
Most people walk around dehydrated every day.
Poor fuel does the same:
Low energy - poor decisions - poor performance.
Performance becomes stable and strong when the inputs are right.
But when this is out of whack it’s chaos.
And you
feel like crap - quickly.
3. Prioritise recovery and calming your nervous system
Modern life keeps most of us in fight or flight.
None stop notifications.
Endless noise.
Dopamine hits.
Comfort at the touch of a button.
When your nervous system is fried, you:
• think worse
• react faster
• snap quicker
• sleep lighter
• burn out sooner
The problem here?
Your foundations are
weak.
But when you calm the system, your reactions slow down (in the right way), and pressure stops getting to you so easily.
You must accept that healthy habits and strong systems are the place where we can build from.
And MAPPS teaches you to implement and stick to these systems.
To build powerful sleep patterns that sharpens your mind.
To have consistent hydration that sharpens your focus.
Why clean nutrition sharpens your
consistency.
How recovery sharpens your judgement.
To implement strong routines that sharpen your identity.
Anyone can perform on a good day.
Real performance is built on the bad ones, when you’re tired, stressed, overwhelmed, or stretched.
That’s where confidence is earned.
Where your personal code is lived.
So this week my advice to you is this:-
Do what it takes to protect your sleep.
Drink more water.
Eat real
food.
Lower the stimulation with less screen time.
Calm your nervous system by practising some basic breathwork each day.
Build a personal code and stick to it - especially on the days when you don’t feel like it.
Strong body.
Sharp mind.
Unbreakable code.
Have a great week,
Ric
